Metamorphosis
I have ignored this blog for much too long, and now I have finally become fed up enough to put my lazy body into action against the scourge that is the Bush administration. While I understand that this may possibly curtail some opportunities to me as a prospect in the international security field, the tactics taken by the recent administration have finally pushed me to an edge that I feel that I have to comment and fight back.
Much like the transformation by Gregor Samsa in Kafka's Metamorphosis, I too am changing into something that I do not recognize yet must embrace to continue to live. This is necessary not just for my moral and political wellbeing, but, I feel, also for the rest of the people that will not stand up for themselves and rally against what they feel is a despotic and tyrannical government despite being democratically elected.
I am making a pledge that I will write, at minimum, one email a day to the White House (most likely to an alternate source in the future). In these emails I plan on expressing my constant discontent at the current policies being taken that are slowly, yet effectively, destroying the country that I love, The United States of America. I am also making a pledge to restart this blog and create a publication that will open up my soul while hopefully motivating others into action where I cannot effect change.
The final straw has finally shown me that Bush sees this all as a game. Quoted in the NY Times, "Isn't it fun watching a government be formed by some of the same people who have just been living under the thumb?" This disgusts me and shows that this man (and I can only assume the rest of his administration) sees the idea of the world and global politics as a game to be enjoyed and forgotten. I was willing to be a silent discontenter when much of the politics were "official." But now that it is being shown to me that this government (and I include Congress in this as well) cares nothing of the world, I now feel that it is my duty as an American citizen to react, speak, and dissent.
Things need to change, and while I understand that this one little blog cannot affect much, I do hope that it can begin the process of facilitating that change in some small way.
